Wildlife Protection

Secrets Papagayo carries out several programs to protect wildlife such as:
• Visible wildlife information signs to raise awareness of wildlife as well as signs notifying animals should not be fed by guests.
• “NO TO STRAWS” campaign in place. Alternative and biodegradable options are provided for guests who request it.
• Participation in reforestation program in conjunction with Tempisque Conservation Area (Government Program, National Parks)
• Monthly beach or forest cleaning activities

Recycling & Resource Conservation

Secrets Papagayo handles several programs:

  • Proper waste management and waste separation program for recycling.
  • There is a temporary recollection center where recyclable materials are stored and then carried by a certified external company in the proper use of waste and recycling.
  • Recycling workshops are offered to employees.
  • In addition, the Entertainment teams uses recyclable materials to build their show decorations and staff encourages paper recycling in offices.

Our Community

Secrets Papagayo has out in place the CST (Certificate for Tourism Sustainability) program which is a technical tool used to support sustainable tourism activity in Costa Rica by strengthening social, cultural, environmental, economic and development work in the tourist destination.
The property has an environmental committee which provides on-site support as well as providing community support with health, cleaning, waste management and recycling issues.
